Childrens books for Lauryn

Dr. Seuss's ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book!Dr. Seuss's ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book! by Dr. Seuss

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Great book for teaching little ones their ABC's! I enjoyed reading this book to Lauryn. It gave examples of each letter, and it rhymed which made reading this book out loud a joy.  I would definitely recommend this small board book to other parents who are looking for a book to read to their child.

Peek-a-Who?Peek-a-Who? by Nina Laden

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Small board book for children that showed a peek-a-boo window to the next page. This book was not interesting at all for me in reading, and Lauryn did not seem to be fascinated by this book at all. In fact, she tore this book up! The only good thing about this book was the fact that it had a mirror in the back of the book, other than that, I would not recommend it to others.

Open the Barn Door, Find a Cow (A Chunky Book(R))Open the Barn Door, Find a Cow (A Chunky Book by Christopher Santoro

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this book for the simple fact that it had small flaps to show the barn house animals. Lauryn kept looking for what was behind the flap, so I'm pretty sure she enjoyed this book. It was very small and compact, which fit perfectly in her hands. She was able to look at the book herself and turn pages if she liked. This book introduced the animals, put the animals in the right occupations, and let the children know what and why they were doing something. Really beneficial to assisting the children in learning about farm animals they may not see in person.

Children's books for Lauryn

Chicka Chicka Boom BoomChicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was a very amusing book for kids. I really enjoyed the fact that the book was about the alphabet climbing up a tree, falling down, and having activities happen to the letters. Reading the words, "chicka chicka boom boom" made Lauryn laugh, and it really made the book enjoyable.

Kids are able to learn their ABC's, and can see how each one goes after each other.  The full alphabet is listed in the back, and the upper and lower case letters are listed in a row.

I definitely recommend this book to other parents who enjoy reading to their kids aloud.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book is decent for a counting book for children. This book goes up to ten. The illustrations were good for counting up to ten. Nothing else spectacular about the book, but it was decent.

On the move... Week 40

Baby girl has been running her mouth trying to talk for the longest... I can't wait until she can actually say some clear words. I love when she babbles, and tries to speak to me... I just talk right back to her in hopes that she understands my clear English. So we have conversations... she talks and stops, then I talk and stop... and this goes on for about 5-7 minutes at a time. She must obviously have a lot to say right now... I swear this girl has been here before... she doesn't seem new at all! LOL!

Lauryn is soaking things up like a sponge. She knows what I say to her, and she understands when I tell her "no", or "don't touch"... I wonder what it sounds like to her? Does she hear me like Charlie Brown heard his mom? "Womp womp womp"... or is it just noise? That would be fascinating to find out how she actually hears what I say.

In addition to talking, Lauryn is getting quite interested in walking. We walk up and down the halls everyday. She has this big grin on her face like she's in love with the idea of walking, and I want her to be comfortable when she gets ready to make those big steps on her own. We practice though, everyday. Walking up and down the hallway. She sometimes grabs my hand and wants to walk when we get in the hallway, so I know that she is getting ready to make those moves herself any day now.

I've read in some articles that babies become afraid of heights at this age... well, they haven't met Lauryn! LOL! This girl is fearless. She climbs, she falls, she experiments, she takes dives, and risks... she does not have any fear in her body whatsoever. She has attempted to dive off the couch and bed on several occasions, and I'm just waiting until she really dives, and I'm going to have to go flying to catch her before she lands on her neck or something. She isn't afraid though... very confident and fearless. I love that about her.

Performer is her middle name... Lauryn can put on a show, and it never fails when we go out somewhere... people from all over stop and talk to her... and boy those eyes get to batting, and that smile gets big and she's on stage!! She is definitely a performer! She loves the attention, and she knows when people are doting on her. She soaks it up!! She is definitely a show stopper... I can't go anywhere without someone stopping us talking about how beautiful she looks... which is major blessing!! But then there goes Lauryn turning into a big sap and soaking up the attention! LOL! I love her!

This week in Lauryn's development: She's learning how to imitate people's facial expressions. She can see you looking a certain way, and then she's off to trying it out. She imitates sounds she hears and movements people make. She is very observant.

She is eager for bath time, as she can now stand and cruise around the tub, she's in love with standing up the whole time and playing with her toys. I have to coax her to sit down so I can wash her up, but she loves to stand. Maybe all this standing is a substitute for standing in her bed at night... because some articles have stated that babies her age will stand in the middle of the night practicing... but when Lauryn is sleep, she is out like a light! So she gets all of her practice in during her tub time.

Lauryn is a climber. If I turn my head for one second she is gone! Climbing on everything! Stairs, couches, beds, chairs... She loves to climb and then stand, so maybe that's what all this climbing is about.  I have to monitor the stairs though because she will be at the top if you let her. She crawls with objects in her hand, and she bangs and brings things to the middle of her body while playing with toys. She is definitely developing her fine motor skills day by day.

Lauryn amazes me every moment of everyday... each day there is something she can do better than she did yesterday. She is truly a blessing.  I thank God for her daily!
